Vennard T-shirt Blanket

IT'S DONE!!!!!

And I LOVE it! It's soft and cuddly.

Here's how I did it.

First, I cut out a pattern with newspaper and used it to cut out my t-shirts.

Then, I pinned it to interfacing and followed the interfacing instructions. (Iron the interfacing on, peel paper off, iron again using a damp press cloth to seal the interfacing.) This was the longest part of the process. It seemed to take forever.

When I finished the interfacing, I spread my shirts out on the floor to figure out the order that I wanted them in.

It was finally time to start sewing. I sewed each individual shirt to the one next to it, completing each individual row. Ironing when the row was complete


Next, I sewed all of my rows together.

Then, I pinned it front sides together to my purple back fabric and sewed around leaving a large enough hole to pull the blanket through. After pulling the blanket through, I hand-stitched the hole closed.


After that I sewed a top stitch a quarter of an inch in all the way around the blanket. The last thing I did was sewed "in the ditch" across my rows to make the blanket nice and snug.

Voila! It is complete!

As a last ditch effort to get myself out of my hobby slump of not doing any of my hobbies, I decided to sew a cover for my camera strap.

I like looking at a pile of cameras and knowing which one is mine. In this day and age where everyone has the same camera as me, it can be difficult to see which one is mine quickly. Enter the camera strap.

Plus, it looks cool.

Motivational Dress

So a few days before our busyness began, I realized that my current sewing project was not going to be completed when I wanted it to be. I had recently been given a bag of clothing from a friend and after going through the bag I found several things that I wanted to "up-cycle". Before Pinterest I would have never known what that word meant so if you are not familiar with the term it means that you are using old clothing (or other older used items) to make something new. In this bag I found a shirt and skirt that I thought I could use for something. I forgot to take pictures of them separate, but remembered after I pinned them together before I cut and sewed.

I decided to cut off the skirt and re-hem it and sew it to the top and add a belt. I am going to add some belt loops as soon as I remember where I placed the leftover fabric, but for now here is the finished project.

I can't wait to wear it! Motivation to lose the "baby weight".

Ta-Ta Tents and Sewing Spree

I have been on a crazy sewing spree the last few weeks. I have made two Ta-Ta Tents, (Yep, that is what I decided to name them. It was the best name anyone came up with.) re-did a part to make my friend's Ta-Ta Tent updated and work more efficiently, and worked on a secret project.

Sadly, my projects have all come to completion.

It is a great feeling to be done, but I am not sure what I am going to work on next.

Any ideas?

Nursing Covers

So, I am looking to sew nursing covers and sell them. I am trying to figure out what to call my little business and would like your input. I would prefer to stay away from anything that draws attention to breasts. So, Adam, "Titty Tents" and "Booby Blinds" are out of the question and not in the running. The two companies that I know of are Hooter Hiders and Udder Covers. Personally, the whole idea of a nursing cover is to hopefully "cover" and draw attention away from the business going on behind it. Anyways, my covers will be slightly wider on the sides as to help hide your belly/back that shows when you nurse and also will have a pocket to hold nursing pads or the baby's pacifier. Here are a couple of pictures of one that I already have completed for my best friend Kimberly.

Sewing Sister*

The last two weeks of sewing club were canceled much to my disappointment. I decided that I had to start my next project by myself.  I got really excited about the project so I ended up finishing it.

Kaylee's dress for her 2nd birthday

Last year my Mom made Kaylee an outfit for her birthday and since this year I am a sewing diva I decided to make Kaylee's birthday get-up myself.

I think it turned out pretty cute.

Sewing Sisters

There is a lovely lady named Jane from church and she has taken time out of her schedule to teach several of us how to sew. (My friend Cara has also helped alongside Jane and filled-in when Jane could not make it.)

When I picked my project, I decided to pick something that I knew I would use and also something that I could learn several different things at once.

So, I picked an apron. This apron has lined pockets, darts, gathers, and a lined top.

I have learned so much and have really enjoyed this class!

And I am finally finished my apron! :)
